Positive: With constantly shifting weather patterns we quickly pivoted to new england, specifically vermont and were fortunate to find this lakeside cabin available. Although we were here for the eclipse i would seriously consider coming back here. It is quiet, sparsely populated and not "touristy" at all. As soon as we arrived the owner came out to greet us and explain they needed a bit more time to get it ready (as this is still the off season and i had booked it only the day before). Throughout our stay she was very solicitous and welcoming, telling us about the history of the island, sorting out some fossils for us to look at (which are apparently quite common along the shoreline) as well as putting together some wood for a bonfire one evening. The home is full of interesting older items an d books to peruse. My wife even found a book about the vermont area she loved so much she read through most of it there and the owner said we were welcome to keep it. All in all i'm glad we stayed here, it was a wonderful experience, unfortunately the clouds did not cooperate and we had to leave a bit early and head east for clearer skies. An eclipse over lake champlain would have been an ideal capstone to a wonderful stay.

Negative: No potable water, so tricky remembering to not cook with the water or accidentally drink some while brushing teeth. We bought bottled water so it was fine, just hard to get used to at first.
